Using indigo-dyed crocodile leather as the main material, cowhide leather, American pig leather, etc., Katsushika Hokusai’s Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji is painted on the school bag. It is expressed in a collage using a wide range of techniques, from traditional hand sewing to modern laser cutting. By interweaving a variety of materials and techniques to create ukiyo-e, it represents the current “floating world” where various values are mixed together but are shaped in harmony. May this complex society that children will carry in the future be a “floating world” where they can live happily and healthily, rather than a painful and painful “sad world.”
This work was selected as a special prize at the JAPAN LEATHER AWARD 2022 (Japan Leather Industry Federation).
